Terra, goddess of earth. In ancient Roman mythology, Terra Mater[a] ("Mother Earth") is the personification of the Earth. Terra is a girl's name of Latin origin meaning "earth." The Latin term is used to denote dry land, typically upon return to solid ground after a rough sea voyage.
I fell in love with the Roman and Latin ties to the name, and felt it resonated perfectly with the original technique that inspired the piece.

The gold accent and white stone were first used in my painting, “Jade”.
Jade, also called “the stone of heaven”, has many meanings far beyond just a stone. It symbolizes prosperity, success, and good luck. It is believed to eliminate any bad spirits and bring good luck and fortune to whoever wears it.
Meanwhile, Kintsugi, meaning “golden joinery”, is a traditional Japanese art form that uses gold to repair broken pottery. This repairs the brokenness in a way that makes the object more beautiful, and even more strong than it was prior to being broken. To me, this is a symbol of being broken and coming back stronger and more beautiful than before.
Combining Jade with Kintsugi, I aim to represent healing from brokenness and moving forward with prosperity and success.
